Hello lovelies!

So, last week I had the opportunity to leave the boring town of Muncie, In. and venture to a place where fashion is at the forefront and the wind blows in every which direction….that’s right, the windy city itself, Chicago, Il.! Even though I’m studying to be a journalist, my minor just happens to be fashion, which allowed me to participate in the fashion department’s annual trip to Chicago to attend seminars on all things fashion at the Art Institute of Illinois, all courtesy of the Fashion Group International.

Included were seminars on the design and fashion merchandising business, even a class on fashion reporting and how important fashion magazines are. The events of the day were all followed up by a student fashion show! Now, the seminars weren’t the only interesting thing to come up during the two-day conference; the abundance of unique fashions of the girls (and guys) there was just as inspiring, and may I add jaw-dropping!

Aside from the plethora of girls fighting to walk in their “too small” and “too high” heels, a fashion trend that was recurring throughout the conference was black, black, and more black! I know black is sophisticated and chic, but apparently it’s fall’s new color!

Many of the outfits included things like black patterned tights, black heels or boots, black high-waisted skirt mixed with a colored top and then topped off with a black leather Bomber jacket or blazer. I couldn’t help but be inspired by the different styles that could come from one simple color.

Check out these celebrities adding sophistication and edgyness with their high-waisted skirts. The Olson twins are the queens of black in the fashion world!

Between the pairings of chunky jewelry and fabulous handbags, most of these girls looked runway ready with a little edge to them. I can honestly say I have been wearing more black now and like the simplicity of it all. Because it’s so easy to pair that crazy colorful necklace you have sitting at the bottom of your jewelry container, or even wear that handbag that will go with nothing else.

With black, possibilities are endless! It’s slimming, looks chic, and you can add the craziest colors for a little something fun….and apparantly is the new trend for fall! So don’t miss out and open up your closest and go experiment with different edgy styles!!

Until next time…LOVES

I’ve Fallen for Fall! October 31, 2010

Hello Lovelies!

It has been much too long since my last post, but between classes and homework, I can’t believe how quickly time as gone by!! Lots of things have been on mind as far as fashion goes, and its been interesting to see people on campus attempting to make the big switch from their fun summery clothes, into the heavy sweaters of fall.

Now, I will be the first to admit I have NEVER liked fall. I am much more of a summer, “California” girl than a “bundle up in heavy sweaters and scarves” girl. However, on my most recent shopping adventure, I can proudly say I have fallen for fall!!! This year’s fall fashion has me actually excited to wear such things as jackets, cardigans, sweaters, and scarves!

One of my favorite looks right now for fall is leggings with long sweaters or shirts and a pair of great boots! I recently attended a concert in Indianapolis and took a funky, rock approach with a white “Beatles” Tee, black leggings, black Ugg boots, black cardigan and TONS of jewelry! It kept me warm waiting outside and cool inside during the show, and fun and stylish for the concert.

Here's Jessica Alba rocking denim leggings, an oversized sweater and black combat boots for an edgy fall look. Also check out here amazing oversized scarf!!

This leggings and boots look is PERFECT for fall. It’s just the right amount of coverage to keep  you warm, but even on those warmer fall days, it can be light and easy to wear. Leggings are the most comfortable pants, so take advantage ladies!! Here some cute ways to dress up the leggings look…

Wearing boots with leggings is also the easiest way to look like a rock star! Just pair it with a big sweater or cardigan, lots of jewelry, and oversized sunglasses and you’re in business!

This is my favorite look for fall so check it out! And don’t forget Joey Eric has some AMAZING Infinity Scarves that are perfect holiday gifts as well!

Until next time….LOVES

Skinny Jeans: The Rules December 7, 2008

Skinny Jeans.

You’ve heard about them.  You’ve seen them.  You think they look great on everyone else.  But when you try them on, you think you look fat, or short, or you’re butt looks too big, or they’re too tight… we’ve heard it all.  You don’t know what shoes to wear with them, you don’t know what tops to wear with them, you don’t know what color to get.  There are so many questions about skinny jeans- and we’re hear to clear the air with the basics on wearing skinny jeans.

Rule Number One: Anyone, I repeat, ANYONE, can wear skinny jeans!

Skinny jeans work with every body type, just in different ways.  If you have bigger hips or a tummy, wear them with Uggs or a wide boot to balance out your middle.  If you have shorter legs, wear them with rounded toe heels.  If you’re tall, try them with flats.  Try out some different looks to find out what’s right for you.

Rule Number Two: Look for a dark wash.

Skinny jeans will be extra slimming with a darker wash.  Try to get the deepest navy you can find (be careful washing, though- the darker the wash, the more dye in the jeans).  An alternative to the dark denim is black denim.  These are very versatile – easy to dress up or down.

Rule Number Three: It’s all about the shoes.

There are three main options for footwear with skinny jeans:  boots, heels and flats.  All of these (with the exception of heels)  can be dressed up or down according to the occasion. Skinny jeans will draw the attention down to your toes, so get creative- there are endless possibilities!

Pairing Ideas

Skinnies and Uggs:  Top with a thermal, a layering sweater and a scarf for a casual day shopping.

Skinnies and Flat Boots: Top with a long tunic for breakfast with the girls.

Skinnies and Heeled Boots: Top with airy blouse and a shrunken vest for happy hour or a night out.

Skinnies and Casual Flats:  Top with a long sweater and a skinny belt for an afternoon at home with your hubby.

Skinnies and Dress Flats: Top with a slim fitting jersey top with a patterned scarf or chunky jewelery for a casual holiday party.

Skinnies and Rounded Toe Heels: Grab a top with some shimmer and shine to impress on New Year’s Eve.

*Joey Eric is currently carrying Flying Monkey skinny jeans (pictured above) in dark denim and black, sizes 24-31.

No skinny jeans? No way!

Ugg Boots have been a huge trend for the past few years.  They’re comfortable, stylish, and you can wear them just about anything… except jeans that are too big to be stuffed into them!  At Joey Eric, we always recommend skinny jeans to go inside Uggs and other boots.  Even if you’re not comfortable in them with flats or heels, they’re a perfect match for Uggs.  There’s no bunching at the knee, no stuffing and folding your jeans into your socks.  We have a great selection of skinny jeans at Joey Eric – our most popular brand is Flying Monkey.  They’re comfortable, stretchy and forgiving – perfect for those boots!
